HB 705 -- Public Assistance Relocation Benefits

Sponsor: Boucher

This bill allows any recipient who (1) is required to work
pursuant to the federal welfare reform law of 1996, and who (2)
lives in a county of high unemployment to apply to the
Department of Social Services for relocation benefits. Such
benefits will assist the recipient in moving to a county of low
unemployment, and may include assistance with moving, temporary
housing, and job interviews and placement. The definition of
which counties are classified as high and low unemployment
counties is specified. Any recipient who receives relocation
benefits is required to participate in approved work
activities. The Department may promulgate rules to implement
the bill's provisions.
