BILL SUMMARIES

TRULY AGREED

HB 1410 -- LICENSE PLATES AND PARKING SPACES FOR PHYSICALLY
DISABLED

This bill requires the Director of Revenue, when reviewing
physicians' statements in connection with applications for
license plates for the physically disabled, to check with the
Board of Podiatric Medicine for statements signed by physicians
of the foot or podiatrists to determine whether a physician is
duly licensed and registered.

The bill also requires that on-street parking spaces in
residential areas intended for those with disabilities meet the
requirements of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and
makes it clear that any such parking space must have the
international symbol of accessibility clearly and visibly
painted on it and any curb adjacent to such parking space must
be painted in blue.

COMMITTEE

HB 1410 -- LICENSE PLATES FOR PHYSICALLY DISABLED

SPONSOR: Luetkenhaus

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Motor Vehicle and Traffic Regulations by a vote of 13 to 0.

This bill requires the Director of Revenue, when reviewing
physician's statements in connection with applications for
license plates for the physically disabled to check with the
Board of Podiatric Medicine for statements signed by physicians
of the foot or podiatrists to determine whether a physician is
duly licensed and registered.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that there was an oversight in last
year's bill and podiatric medicine was not included for
physician's statement purposes.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Luetkenhaus;
Missouri Podiatric Medical Association; and Missouri Board of
Podiatric Medicine.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Bob Triplett, Legislative Analyst
