COMMITTEE

HB 662 -- SHERIFFS' RETIREMENT

SPONSOR: Crump

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Retirement by a vote of 10 to 0.

This bill raises the monthly payment for medical insurance
premiums for retired members of the sheriffs' retirement system
from $300 to $450. Currently, the cost-of-living adjustment has
a 50% lifetime cap based on the initial benefit; the bill
changes this to an annual cap of 5%.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill will raise monthly
payments for medical insurance for 75 retired members of the
sheriffs' retirement system and change how the cost-of-living
adjustment cap is set. The bill is really enabling legislation,
because the system's board of directors will have the final say.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Crump; Missouri
Sheriffs' Retirement System; and Missouri Sheriffs' Association.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
