HB 1089 -- Educational Awareness for Organ Donation

This bill requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education to disseminate information and data to school boards
which can be used by school districts to develop a unit of
instruction on organ and tissue donations and organ
transplantation programs.

School districts with 9th and 10th grade levels may include in
their curriculum for either grade level one unit of instruction
on organ and tissue donation and organ transplantation.

Students are not required to take the course if a parent or
guardian files a written objection concerning the course based
on constitutional grounds.  This non-participation by a student
will not result in a suspension, expulsion, or any academic
penalty.
