Current Bill Summary
SB 23 - This act would allow any school district to
authorize charter schools within the district upon approval by
voters of the district. The issue may be brought to a vote by an
order adopted by the school board or by an initiative petition in
the district signed by district residents numbering at least 10%
of the last gubernatorial vote. If the proposal is approved, the
school board may sponsor charter schools in the district, and the
proposal may also allow 4-year public colleges in the same or an
adjoining county and community colleges in the county to sponsor
charter schools in the district.
