SCS SB 341 -- LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES Currently, elected county sheriffs are exempt from training and certification requirements for peace officers. This bill makes elected sheriffs subject to such training and certification. Sheriffs are required to complete the training and certification requirements within 12 months of taking office. Sheriffs who have not completed the training and certification requirements by January 1, 2002, are not allowed to participate in any primary enforcement activities. The bill does not apply to St. Louis County.
