Rep. Charles
R. Portwood, a Republican, represents part of St. Louis County, including the
cities of Manchester, Town & Country and Country Life Acres (District 92)
in the Missouri House of Representatives.
Rep. Portwood
has served as vice-chair of the Freshman Republican Caucus and Republican
deputy whip. He was elected Majority Caucus chair in his second term.
Elected to his
second two-year term in 2002, Rep. Portwood is a practicing chiropractic
physician in Manchester. Previously he taught clinical education at Logan
Chiropractic College in Chesterfield from 1994-1996. Rep. Portwood was
named 2001 Chiropractor of the Year.
In addition to
his legislative duties, Rep. Portwood is a member of the Lafayette Church of
Christ, the West County Chamber of Commerce, and the Missouri State
Chiropractors Association. He is also a member of the West County
Republican Organization, the American Legislative Exchange Council, the
National Conference of State Legislatures, the National Association of
Sportsmen Legislators, the National Republican Legislators Association and the
Missouri Federation of Pachyderm Clubs.�
Rep. Portwood serves on the St. Louis board of the American Diabetes
Association.
A 1981
graduate of Lindsay High School in Lindsay, Oklahoma, Rep. Portwood attended
Oklahoma Christian College where he majored in biochemistry. He received
a bachelor of science in human biology and a doctorate in chiropractic from
Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield in 1991.
Born April 3,
1963 in Denver, Colo., Rep. Portwood lives in West St. Louis County with his
wife Dawn, who is an assistant principal at Rockwood South Middle School.
They have four children: Charles, Katherin, Laura and Harrison.
