House Journal - Day 002

House Journal

Second Regular Session, 89th General Assembly

SECOND DAY, Thursday, January 8, 1998

Speaker Gaw in the Chair.

Prayer by Reverend Cheryl L. Tatham.

O God, You are the Lord of the field and the farm, the cities and the cathedrals. You are the Lord of the rich and the poor. We come into this place gathered from all walks of life, here to attend to the needs and issues that affect lives around this state. Grant that this day might be well lived; grant that the work we do might be well done; grant that the time that we spend might be well-spent as we seek to serve better and more faithfully our various responsibilities.

As those within these walls come here, refreshed by time spent in the company of loved ones, keep their energy alive for the tedious tasks that must be done. Help them tackle the big stuff with courage, and the little stuff with patience. Renew in each person here the assurance of Your presence. And help us live in right relation to one another, speaking with respect and courtesy, acknowledging each other as Your child.

We pray especially for the family of Representative Bill Hand who passed away last evening. He has served this state well. Receive him into Your Kingdom and comfort those who mourn his passing. Hear our prayer, O Lord. Amen.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited.

The Speaker appointed the following to act as Honorary Pages for the Day, to serve without compensation: Anthony Carrol and Ryan Carrol.

The Journal of the first day was approved as printed.
