HB 1753 -- Charter Schools
Sponsor: Riley
This bill permits charter schools to be operated in any school
district, rather than just the St. Louis and Kansas City
districts. The current 5% limit on conversion of school
district buildings to use by charter schools is revised to
permit the establishment of one charter school in any district
where the limit would functionally prohibit charter schools.
The bill also requires that charter schools meet all
accreditation standards. Currently, charter schools are exempt
from consideration in a district's process and resource
standards for accreditation, but not from achievement standards.
