HB 1845 -- Higher Education Sponsors of Charter Schools
Co-Sponsors: Campbell, Van Zandt
This bill creates a source of funding for higher education
sponsors of charter schools. The Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education will pay institutions that elect to receive
such funding an amount equal to 3% of the per pupil funding to
which the charter school is entitled. The amount will not be
subtracted from the charter school's aid. The bill sets out
requirements for sponsors receiving such funds, which include,
among others, coordination of testing and special education,
collection of data, assistance with certain aspects of school
finance, and monitoring compliance with state safety, health,
and education standards. Sponsors who elect to receive funding
and fail to comply with the requirements will not be eligible
for support funds in the following year.
