INTRODUCED

HB 1996 -- Short-term Reemployment of Retired Teachers

Co-Sponsors:  Backer, Hagan-Harrell, Kreider, Williams (159),
Relford, Summers, Fitzwater, Berkowitz

This bill permits school districts with a teacher shortage to
employ retired teachers for up to 2 years without loss of the
retired teacher's benefits.  Reemployed retired teachers can
make up no more than 10% of the teaching staff.  Reemployed
retired teachers will be listed in the directory of new hires
for income and eligibility purposes pursuant to Social Security
law.

The bill contains an emergency clause.
