COMMITTEE
HB 2019 -- ST. LOUIS CITY CIRCUIT CLERK
SPONSOR: Gambaro
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Municipal
Corporations by a vote of 12 to 0.
Currently, the Clerk of the Circuit Court of the City of St.
Louis can employ an attorney or attorneys to assist and advise
the clerk in the performance of required duties.
This bill allows the clerk to retain outside legal counsel who
would be paid an amount not exceeding $50,000 if the clerk does
not employ an attorney.
FISCAL NOTE: Cost to General Revenue Fund of $25,000 in FY
2001, FY 2002, and FY 2003.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that in the event the Circuit Clerk
does not employ an attorney or attorneys, this bill would allow
some flexibility for retaining outside legal counsel.
Testifying for the bill were Representative Kennedy; and Mariano
Favazza, Circuit Clerk, City of St. Louis.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
