HB 2168 -- Bail Bonds

Sponsor: Foster

This bill prohibits bail bond agents from practicing in any
second, third, or fourth classification county and bail sureties
from making a profit by acting as a surety in any second, third,
or fourth classification county. The penalty for acting as a
surety for profit in a second, third, or fourth classification
county is a class A misdemeanor.

The bill also requires that after a person requiring bail is
convicted, 10% of the bail received by the court must be
distributed to the appropriate local law enforcement agencies or
evenly distributed among law enforcement agencies in the county
if the Highway Patrol made the arrest.
