AN ACT

To repeal section 483.260, RSMo 1994, relating to the St. Louis city circuit clerk, and to enact in lieu thereof one new section relating to the same subject.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Section 483.260, RSMo 1994, is repealed and one new section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 483.260, to read as follows:

483.260. 1. The clerk of the circuit court of the city of St. Louis may employ an attorney or attorneys to aid and advise [him] such clerk in the discharge of [his] such clerk's duties, to render independent legal advice and services and to represent [him] such clerk in court. The attorneys employed by the clerk shall receive in the aggregate as compensation for their services twenty-five thousand dollars per annum, payable out of the state treasury in installments as certified by the circuit clerk.

2. If the clerk does not employ an attorney pursuant to subsection 1 of this section, the clerk may retain outside legal counsel to be paid an amount not to exceed fifty thousand dollars.
