AN ACT

To amend chapter 199, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to a brain injury study.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Chapter 199, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 199.150, to read as follows:

199.150. In order to facilitate the efficiency and expansion of access to and provision of services for persons with brain injuries, the department of mental health shall be the lead agency, in collaboration with the department of health, to:

(1) Conduct a study on expanding the services provided to persons with brain injuries and streamlining the process for access to such services. The study shall have the following goals:

(a) To allow persons with brain injuries the option of utilizing the services of either the department of health or the department of mental health for a five-year period;

(b) To expand the definition of brain injury to include persons with acquired brain injury; and

(c) To create a one-stop system for persons with brain injuries by implementing an interdepartmental referral system which allows such persons to contact either department to access the services of both departments; and

(2) By January 1, 2002, develop and submit to the general assembly:

(a) A report on the feasibility of the goals in subdivision (1) of this subsection; and

(b) The departments' plan for implementing such goals.
