SPONSOR: Mathewson (Koller)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Transportation by a vote of 20 to 0.

This substitute allows school bus exhaust tailpipes to extend 2 inches beyond the perimeter of the body or bumper. Current law prohibits exhaust tailpipes from protruding from the bus at all.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this legislation brings Missouri into compliance with the federal law and with national standards on school bus manufacturing guidelines. Currently, new buses must have the exhaust pipe changed in Missouri because the state equipment regulation is different from the federal regulation.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Mathewson.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
