HCS SB 724 -- TOURISM TAX
SPONSOR: Rohrbach (Farnen)
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Tourism, Recreation and Cultural Affairs by a vote of 14 to 1.
This substitute authorizes Hickory County and the City of Mexico, with voter approval, to have a tourism tax of not more than 5% on the charges for all sleeping rooms paid by transient guests of hotels and motels. The proceeds of such tax will be used for the promotion of tourism.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the City of Mexico and Hickory County could benefit from this tax.
Testifying for the bill was Senator Rohrbach.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
