SB 734 -- CHILD LABOR

SPONSOR: Stoll

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Labor by a vote of 20 to 0.

This bill removes participation as a player in a youth sporting event from the list of services not covered by the definition of "employ" in the Child Labor Law.

The bill has an emergency clause and will be effective upon the later of its approval by the Governor or July 1, 2000.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill makes a correction to legislation which was passed in 1999. The intent of the bill is to keep children who participate as players in youth sporting events from being covered by the child labor protections of Chapter 294, RSMo.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Stoll.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
