Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 331 -- COURTHOUSE RESTORATION FUNDS

SPONSOR:  O'Toole

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Judiciary
by a vote of 16 to 3.

This bill increases from $35 to $45 the surcharge for filing a
civil action in the City of St. Louis.  The funds must be used
for the restoration of courthouses.  The bill's provisions have
an expiration date of August 28, 2033.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill is necessary to help
offset the costs of repairing the old federal courthouse that
the City of St. Louis will soon acquire.

Testifying for the bill were Representative O'Toole; Office of
the Mayor, City of St. Louis; and Office of the Circuit Clerk,
City of St. Louis.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
