HB 410 -- REMOVAL OF WEEDS CO-SPONSORS: Holt, George, Bearden, Ostmann COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 18 to 0. This bill allows the City of St. Peters to order the abatement of weeds or trash within 5 business days after notice is sent or posted on the property. If the weeds or trash are not removed within 5 days, the city may have them removed and the cost of removal billed on a special tax bill to be collected by the collector with other taxes assessed against the property. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that many communities have a problem with homeowners who let grass and weeds grow. Under the current system, it can take up to 10 weeks to address the problem. In many cases, the summer season is over and the weeds have never been cut. Testifying for the bill was Representative Holt. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Steve Bauer, Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
