HB 491 -- THIRD CLASS CITIES
CO-SPONSORS: George, Hickey
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Municipal Corporations by a vote of 11 to 0.
This bill exempts third class cities from electing a marshal if
they contract with another entity for police service.
The bill also allows third class cities to contract with either
a public or private entity for the assessment of property or the
collection of taxes.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the purpose of the bill is to
provide third class cities an additional option of providing
police services.
Testifying for the bill were Representative George; City of
Black Jack; and St. Louis County Municipal League.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
