HB 52 -- PROSECUTORS

CO-SPONSORS:  Ward, Crump

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 16 to 0.

This bill requires the prosecuting attorney in St. Francois
County to devote full-time to the position of prosecutor.  The
prosecutor may not engage in the practice of law outside of the
position of prosecutor.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill corrects an error made
in legislation several years ago.  The position of prosecutor is
full-time, and the pay should reflect that.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Ward.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
