Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 537 -- MARRIAGE

CO-SPONSORS: Ostmann, Riback Wilson (25), Richardson

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Civil and Administrative Law by a vote of 14 to 0.

This bill updates several statutes relating to marriage,
dissolution of marriage, administration of a conservatorship,
and ownership and conveyance of real property, so as to make
those statutes gender neutral.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill merely corrects
outdated laws relating to marriage and "the rights of married
women" and related statutes governing the ownership of property
dating back to the 1930's, making those statutes gender neutral.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Ostmann; and
Missouri Women's Network.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
