HB 53 -- ASSOCIATE CIRCUIT JUDGES

CO-SPONSORS:  Ward, Crump

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Judiciary
by a vote of 19 to 0.

This bill provides for an additional associate circuit judge in
St. Francois County.

FISCAL NOTE:  Estimated Net Cost to General Revenue Fund of
$199,010 in FY 2002, $236,975 in FY 2003, and $242,790 in FY
2004.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill is necessary because
of the ever-increasing caseload in St. Francois County due to
the correctional and mental health centers located in the area.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Ward.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
