Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 745 -- UNCLAIMED PROPERTY

SPONSOR: Farnen

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 16 to 0.

This bill requires any money or property found on a dead body to
be delivered to the county or city public administrator within
30 days. If not delivered to the public administrator, the
public administrator may bring civil action to recover the
property. Under current law, the property must be delivered to
the county or city treasurer.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that money found on a body should be
given to the public administrator. The public administrator
deals with the estates. At one time we didn't have public
administrators and money had to be given to someone.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Farnen; and Missouri
County Treasurers Association.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
