Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 769 -- CONFIDENTIALITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION IN HIGHER
EDUCATION SAVINGS PROGRAM

SPONSOR: Harlan

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Education-Higher by a vote of 13 to 0.

This bill requires that personally identifiable information
about participants and beneficiaries of Missouri higher
education savings program accounts be kept confidential and
limits their disclosure to administrative purposes.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that there is a gap in public
records law that needs to be filled; the administrator of the
savings program requested that the records of the savings
program accounts be specifically made confidential.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Harlan; and State
Treasurer's Office.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
