HB 804 -- ABATEMENT OF NUISANCE CO-SPONSORS: McKenna, Wagner, Abel, Selby, Hollingsworth, Johnson (90) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 17 to 0. This bill allows Greene County and, depending on the 2000 United States census figures, Jefferson County to enact ordinances to reduce conditions on property which constitute a public nuisance. The ordinances may state that if the owner does not remove the nuisance within 7 days of notice, the building commissioner may have the condition eliminated. Cost will be certified to the officer in charge of finance and added to the annual real estate tax bill for that property as a personal debt of the owner. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that Jefferson County has a problem with junk and trash. The bill will allow the county to clean up these problem areas. Testifying for the bill was Representative McKenna. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Steve Bauer, Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
