Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 846 -- TOBACCO SETTLEMENT ATTORNEYS' FEES

CO-SPONSORS:  Abel, Foley, Crump, Farnen, Carnahan, Kreider,
Thompson, Green (73)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Judiciary
by a vote of 13 to 3 with 1 present.

This bill requires attorneys' fees incurred as the result of the
Missouri Tobacco Settlement Agreement to be paid as provided in
accordance with the agreement and not paid from the proceeds of
the settlement.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill is necessary to avoid
jeopardizing Missouri's tobacco settlement proceeds.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Abel.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
