Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 848 -- MISSOURI GENETIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE

CO-SPONSORS:  Barry, Johnson (61)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Children, Families and Health by a vote of 14 to 0.

This bill revises a provision pertaining to the Missouri Genetic
Advisory Committee.  The bill requires that members of the
committee consist of persons who specialize or who have
expertise in the field of genetics.  The bill also requires that
a majority of the committee members be licensed physicians who
practice in Missouri.  Currently, at least one committee member
must be a specialist in genetics and members are required to
reside in Missouri.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will allow medical
professionals to serve on the Missouri Genetic Advisory
Committee who specialize or who have an expertise in genetics
and practice in Missouri, but live across state lines.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Barry; and Stephen
R.  Braddock, M.D.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
