SB 25 -- UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI
SPONSOR: Johnson (Farnen)
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Education-Higher by a vote of 14 to 0.
This bill removes the outdated prohibition on collecting tuition
at the University of Missouri. The bill restates the right of
the Board of Curators to charge reasonable tuition and other
fees as necessary.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the definition of "tuition" has
changed since the statute was enacted in 1872, when an entrance
fee, plus a per-semester incidental fee, was substituted for
tuition.
Testifying for the bill were Senator Johnson; and University of
Missouri.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
