HB 119 -- Pharmacy Relief Program for Senior Citizens Co-Sponsors: Clayton, Relford, Shoemyer, Farnen, Wiggins, Scheve, Berkowitz, Dougherty Subject to appropriations, the Department of Social Services is required to establish a Pharmaceutical Relief Program for senior citizens by January 1, 2002. The program will provide prescription drugs at no cost to individuals 65 years of age and older if (1) they have $1,000 in individual expenditures for prescription medications for the calendar year; and (2) they have an annual income of $25,000 per year or less, or if the person has an income tax filing status of married filing a combined return, has an annual income of $25,000 per year or less not to exceed a combined income of $50,000. Eligibility for the program will be determined annually and will not be affected by a person's receipt of the pharmaceutical tax credit for senior citizens currently authorized in statute. The department is to contract with pharmacies in the state to provide prescription medications through the program. Participating pharmacies will be reimbursed at a rate and in a manner specified in the contract. The department is to issue Pharmaceutical Relief Prescription drug cards to eligible seniors to enable them to obtain no cost prescription drugs.
