Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 322 -- Kansas City School District

Co-Sponsors: Campbell, Van Zandt

Currently, when a school district has been declared
unaccredited, it has a two-school-year period in which to
attempt to regain its accreditation before statute requires the
district to lapse. This bill changes the lapse timetable for
the Kansas City school district, declaring that the district
will lapse and the State Board of Education will govern the
district as of the effective date of the bill. The bill permits
the State Board of Education to govern or reorganize the
district as currently permitted by the lapsed district statute
until procedures for governance or reorganization are completed.

The bill contains an emergency clause.
