Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 690 -- Animals

Co-Sponsors: Harding, Kelly (27), Boucher

This bill requires any possible transmission of rabies or any
zoonotic disease to be reported to the Department of Health.
This requirement applies to any county not having adopted rules
and regulations pursuant to possible transmission of rabies or
any zoonotic disease. The department is to investigate the
incident and has discretion to order the animal quarantined,
isolated, impounded, immunized, or disposed of.

Any animal owner who fails to comply with an order of the
department is guilty of a class A misdemeanor. The owner of the
animal who transmits rabies or any zoonotic disease is liable to
the injured party for all damages. The bill also adds bears,
nonhuman primates, and any deadly or dangerous reptile over 6
feet long to exotic animals which must be registered by their
owners with the local law enforcement agency in the county in
which the animal is kept.
