HB 822 -- License Plates and Tabs Sponsor: Troupe This bill requires license plates to be coated so as to allow the background, letters, and numerals to reflect the light of other vehicles. Figures on plates for most vehicles must not be less than 3 inches in height and the strokes not less than five-sixteenths of an inch in width. For motorcycles, the figures must not be less than one inch in height and the strokes not less than one-eight of an inch in width. New plates, instead of tabs, will be issued annually for certain apportioned vehicles, trailers, buses, dealers, and commercial vehicles in excess of 12,000 pounds. Beginning January 1, 2002, an alternative window tab design will be available, at the option of the vehicle owner, for noncommercial motor vehicles upon annual registration. The alternative tab will be required to be placed in the lower corner on the driver's side of the windshield. Whenever a vehicle owner opts for a window tab, the Director of the Department of Revenue will also issue a tab which reads "window tab" to be placed on the license plate in the space designated for renewal tabs. The design and placement of tabs on all other vehicle categories will remain the same.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
