HB 988 -- Requirement for Closing Steel Manufacturing and
Natural Resource Mining Facilities

This bill requires any owner or operator of a steel
manufacturing facility and natural resource mining facility to
notify the Director of the Department of Economic Development
when they decide to close the facility or cease operations.  The
notification must occur no more than 30 days after the decision
to close or cease operations is made.  The director will take
reasonable measures to notify potential buyers about the
availability of the facility and its condition.  Owners and
operators must be in compliance with this requirement prior to
receiving any tax credit or other tax benefit from the state.
