FIRST REGULAR SESSION
House Concurrent Resolution No. 17
91ST GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Whereas, the citizens of Missouri have always taken great pride in the bountiful natural forest resources found in the Mark Twain National Forest, and have actively promoted responsible stewardship of these God-given assets for use by present and future generations; and
Whereas, the Mark Twain National Forest recently proposed one hundred thousand acres of the forest as a special management area for the Indiana bat; and
Whereas, the stakeholders have had little opportunity to understand or participate in developing the proposal; and
Whereas, the proposal does not reflect a decision based on scientific evidence; and
Whereas, such proposal may have serious social, economic and biological impacts on the region's economy, people, fauna and flora:
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the members of the House of Representatives of the Ninety-first General Assembly, First Regular Session, the Senate concurring therein, hereby urge Forest Supervisor Randy Moore to withdraw the current proposal, reissue a revised proposal with sufficient details so interested stakeholders can provide meaningful responses and reflect stakeholder input in the final decision; and
Be it further resolved that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of Representatives be instructed to prepare properly
inscribed copies of this resolution for Forest Supervisor Randy Moore and Regional Forester Bob Jacobs as an indication of our great
concern for the limited stakeholder involvement and the lack of sensitivity by the Forest Service towards the potential impacts from
setting aside one hundred thousand acres of national forest for the Indiana bat.Return to the
