FIRST REGULAR SESSION
House Concurrent Resolution No. 19
91ST GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Whereas, the people of the state of Missouri have endured a colder than normal winter which in turn has resulted in greater demand and consumption of heating fuels such as natural gas; and
Whereas, the recent dramatic increase in natural gas prices has had a devastating financial affect on many middle and low income Missourians who cannot afford to pay utility bills which have more than doubled in recent months; and
Whereas, during this crisis, many Missourians on fixed and limited incomes may be forced to eliminate essential purchases such as food and medicine from their limited budgets in order to pay their exorbitant utility bills; and
Whereas, due to the extraordinary circumstances that the people of the state of Missouri find themselves in, the political subdivisions of this state should consider taking an extraordinary step to protect the interests of the people of the state of Missouri:
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the members of the House of Representatives of the Ninety-first General Assembly, First Regular Session, the Senate concurring therein, hereby urge the political subdivisions of this state that are imposing a gross receipts tax on natural gas sales to suspend such tax on a month to month basis until the current natural gas price crisis is over; and
Be it further resolved that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of Representatives be instructed to prepare properly inscribed
copies of this resolution for every political subdivision of this state that imposes a gross receipts tax on natural gas sales.Return to the Missouri
