HB 1159 -- SPECIAL LICENSE PLATES
SPONSOR: Boykins
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Motor Vehicle and Traffic Regulations by a vote of 8 to 0.
This bill allows for special license plates for members of the
Delta Sigma Theta or Omega Psi Phi Greek organizations.
To obtain the special plate, individuals must obtain an
emblem-use authorization statement from the respective
organization for a $25 fee and present it to the Department of
Revenue along with a payment of a $15 fee in addition to the
registration fee and any other documents required by law.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that these organizations are
community-based and do the community a great service. The bill
will help fund various youth service and scholarship programs.
Testifying for the bill were Representative Boykins; Phil White,
Omega Psi Phi; and Sheila Plummer, Delta Sigma Theta.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
