HB 1348 -- BOLL WEEVIL ERADICATION CO-SPONSORS: Myers, Jetton, Mayer, Richardson, Merideth, Black, Schwab, Britt COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Agriculture by a vote of 19 to 0. Current law allows eligible voters to conduct a referendum on boll weevil suppression or eradication. Upon approval of the referendum, voters are allowed to vote on whether to continue their assessments pursuant to boll weevil suppression or eradication at least once every five years. This bill extends the time period for a vote from at least once every five years to at least once every ten years. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is necessary to qualify Missouri for United States Department of Agriculture loans for the Boll Weevil Eradication Program.
