Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 1708 -- CITY OF ST. LOUIS RECORDER OF DEEDS

CO-SPONSORS: Daus, Gambaro, Johnson (61), Boykins, Carnahan,
O'Toole, Hilgemann, Villa, Shelton

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Municipal
Corporations by a vote of 7 to 2.

This bill requires the State Registrar to appoint the Recorder of
Deeds as the Local Registrar for the City of St. Louis.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill would consolidate the
functions of the Office of the Local Registrar under the Office
of the Recorder of Deeds for the City of St. Louis. The
consolidation would result in the establishment of a centralized
office where vital statistics and records can be accessed by
citizens of the City of St. Louis. The consolidation would save
the City of St. Louis $250,000 annually.

Testifying for the bill were Representatives Daus and Gambaro.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
