HB 1782 -- RURAL WATER GRANTS SPONSOR: Shoemyer (9) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 12 to 3. Currently, no public water supply district, sewer district, or any rural community water and sewer system is allowed to receive more than one grant in a two-year period. This bill allows a grant for a water supply or sewer district construction project and a grant for a source water protection project to be awarded in any two-year period. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will allow more than one grant during a two-year period. Currently, there are grant moneys available for use that cannot be used because state law does not allow the grants. The grant moneys available are in a program called CREPT. This program will help farmers stop pollution. Testifying for the bill were Representative Shoemyer (9); and Missouri Rural Water District Association. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Steve Bauer, Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
