HB 1593 -- Law Enforcement and Corrections Officers Co-Sponsors: Gratz, Hampton, Townley, Moore, Barnitz, Ward, Thompson This bill requires candidates for the office of sheriff to have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma and to have at least two years of law enforcement experience. The bill also includes jailers in the definition of "peace officer," thus requiring jailers to get training under the peace officer standards and training law. The bill also revises the composition of the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission. The bill also establishes the Corrections Officers Certification Program which, after July 1, 2003, will allow corrections officers to become POST certified after completing an instruction course.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
