Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1738 -- Informed Consent for an Abortion

Co-Sponsors: Cunningham, Villa, Myers, Crowell, Cierpiot, Reid,
Bearden, Mayer, Portwood, Hendrickson

This bill revises a provision pertaining to informed consent for
an abortion.

The bill requires that a physician must certify that a woman gave
her informed consent to an abortion, freely and without coercion,
24 hours prior to the abortion.

The informed consent given by a woman will occur after a
physician has informed a woman of the increased risk of breast
cancer associated with an abortion.

The bill repeals Subsection 3 of Section 188.039, RSMo, which
allows a physician to inform a woman of any other material facts
or opinions which, in the exercise of the physician's judgment,
are reasonably necessary to allow a woman to give her informed
consent to an abortion.
