Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1744 -- Billboards

Co-Sponsors: Abel, Ostmann, Fraser, Franklin

This bill prohibits any new outdoor advertising from being
erected adjacent to any interstate or federal-aid primary highway
or highways designated as part of the national highway system
after the effective date of the bill. However, directional or
official, on-premise, natural wonders or historic attraction,
travel information, or landmark signs may be erected; and local
zoning authorities may permit the erection of new signs that do
not exceed 100 square feet in size. Signs erected prior to the
effective date of the bill are declared nonconforming but may be
maintained. The provisions of the bill will expire on January 1,
2008.

The bill has an emergency clause.
