HB 1919 -- Counselors and Therapists Sponsor: Treadway This bill contains provisions regarding professional counselors and marital and family therapists. The bill: (1) Dissolves the Committee for Professional Counseling and the Committee for Marital and Family Therapy and places both professions under the State Board of Counselors and Therapists, which is created within the Division of Professional Registration; (2) Contains provisions pertaining to the appointment of the board, including qualifications, terms, compensation, powers, and duties; (3) Creates the Board of Counselors and Therapists Fund; (4) Requires all rules adopted by the board to be approved by the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules; (5) Allows the division to promulgate rules for initial licensure and renewal, fee collections, conduct of examinations, investigation procedures, competency standards, reciprocity, ethical standards, and exemptions; and (6) Repeals and reenacts sections pertaining to marital and family therapists in order to bring those sections under the newly formed board. The provisions of the bill will become effective upon the initial appointment of all members of the board or July 1, 2004, whichever occurs first.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
