Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1960 -- Tobacco Taxes

Co-Sponsors:  Monaco, Sanders Brooks, Walton, Copenhaver

This bill increases the state tax on cigarettes and on other
tobacco products.  The cigarette tax is increased by 37 and 1/2
mills (75 cents per pack), and the tax on other tobacco products
is increased by 75 cents on each sale at retail.

Revenues resulting from the increases will be distributed as
follows:

(1)  Fifteen cents to the Child and Youth Development Fund to be
used to provide access to high-quality early education programs;

(2)  Fifteen cents to the Child and Youth Development Fund to be
used to provide youth development programs during non-school
hours; and

(3)  The remaining amount will be deposited to the credit of the
state General Revenue Fund.

The bill contains a referendum clause.
