Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 2159 -- Naturopathic Medicine

This bill provides for the registration and licensure of doctors
of naturopathic medicine.  The bill:

(1)  Defines the terms related to naturopathic medicine;

(2)  Prohibits the practice of naturopathic medicine without
being certified;

(3)  Creates the State Board of Naturopathic Medicine;

(4)  Gives the board subpoena powers;

(5)  Gives the board the authority to adopt rules, give exams,
collect fees, and employ personnel;

(6)  Creates the State Board of Naturopathic Medicine Fund within
the state treasury;

(7)  Exempts licensed physicians and chiropractors from
examination if they have an accredited degree in naturopathic
medicine;

(8)  Allows licensed naturopathic physicians to dispense
substances or devices under certain circumstances;

(9)  Requires continuing education as a condition for license
renewal;

(10)  Gives the board authority to refuse to issue, suspend, and
revoke licenses; and

(11)  Requires the board to publish a quarterly list of licensees
and disciplinary report.
