Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 2182 -- Tuition Charged to K-8 School Districts

Co-Sponsors: Davis, Ransdall, Relford

This bill permits K-8 school districts to provide tuition for
their students who attend an accredited high school in an
adjoining district; current law specifies students may attend
another district in the same or an adjoining county. The bill
revises how tuition is to be calculated by districts providing
education to students with no accredited school at their grade
level. The bill requires receiving districts to disclose the
basis for calculations, including the elements included in
determining the cost by grade level groupings. Receiving
districts may not include certain administrative and other costs
not related to the education of students from outside the
district in the calculation, nor may these districts raise their
tuition at a rate in excess of the percentage increase of their
state per-pupil aid amount from year to year.
