Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 2190 -- Transfer Process for Public Higher Education

Co-Sponsors:  Legan, Richardson, Burcham, Burton

This bill requires the Coordinating Board for Higher Education to
assure that:

(1)  Courses offered at public two- and four-year institutions be
of the same standard of quality;

(2)  Work for an associate of arts degree will apply toward the
requirements for a bachelor's degree;

(3)  An associate of arts degree will satisfy lower-level,
general education requirements;

(4)  Completion of a bachelor's degree by an associate degree
holder will not require more hours than required of a native
student of a four-year school;

(5)  Additional credits at community colleges earned by associate
degree holders will apply toward bachelor's degrees when the
courses are listed in the four-year school's catalog as
prerequisites for a bachelor's degree or appropriate for a
bachelor's degree; and

(6)  Transfers from a four-year school to a two-year institution
will apply toward an associate of arts, associate of science, or
associate of applied science degree.
