Summary of the Introduced Bill

HJR 40 -- Legislative Term Limits

Sponsor: O'Toole

This proposed constitutional amendment changes the limit on the
number of years a person may serve in the General Assembly from
eight years in each chamber to twelve consecutive years in each
chamber. Service completing the term of another person of less
than a full general assembly will not be counted toward the
limit. The amendment also prohibits any person from serving as
Speaker of the House or President Pro Tempore of the Senate for
more than a total of four years.
